“The Story of my LIFE within a book or two..” : by Artist Miguel Hine- August 2015.

~ If you know me well, you’d already know that I have always carried a Sketchbook along with me. In-fact, I started making several books a year in way back when I was 14 years old grade school while while attending my first ever of art school. They where mandatory for student’s.. I drew my first observation’s and basic art skills within them.. and never stopped. I now own a well preserved collection of over 400 Sketchbook’s created in over 30’s of time filled with artwork, writing’s and rant’s. Travel photo’s maps, experiences restaurant recites.. “Endless amount’s of found object’s ” There deep and tell the story of my life.
I had my first “Solo show” and exhibited about 30 of them hung to particular pages, along with my painting’s. It was the only time they have ever been exhibited. They are not yet for sale I apologize if interested, I have been offered thousand’s of dollars for them but before and turned the offer’s down. I refuse to sell them at this point in my life.
What I would like to do and plan to do with these treasures of mine is one day properly scan them in chronological order and publish my first book What we fine artist call, our “Retrospective” Our life’s work. I’d chose certain important events and book images thorough my life, and along with a narration of-course, I’d also like to also include 30 or so images of my larger gallery artwork in the middle of the book. ~ Till then, I keep creating my book’s. ” Who is Artist Miguel Hine anyway??”

” Who is this Costa Rician / Miami resident, Artist Miguel Hine anyway?.. An Artist of some sort they say?”

A  common question asked by many artist’s to them self’s daily… I’ve been asking my self this question for year’s. Thankfully.  I have always really knowing the answer. It’s quite simple really.. My artistic philosophy and outlook and I’d go as far as say, “My Mission in this Life”came with time. While a young ambitious student at prestigious art school’s across the nation, real deal hard working art school’s..  I was doing great, in all advanced classes and won over 5 academic scholarship’s won across the USA. .. All that aside, I was a mess. All I wanted to do was go Surfing, For personal reason’s I just Split! I traveled a lot through all sort of places working killer jobs, most artistically involved like Advertising Agency’s. A Surfinging Magazine * Surfos La Revista de Surf de Centro America. Crazy Adventure’s working as an Adventure Guide for Coast to Coast doing white water rafting, canopy tour’s, Horse back ridding, surf lesson.s kayaking to a deserted island in the North Pacific coast.. For Get About it!!  Straight up the Apple did not fall far from the tree.  I parted like a freak’ing rock star for year’s!!  To the point of insanity. The way a young adventure should. I got that out of my system at a young age. Looking back, briefly a few years ago..   I’ve worked everywhere and quite frankly can sit along side *anyone and enjoy a quick positive and inquisitive conversation. Recently these past few year’s I worked in the Film industry throughout several Southern Staes as a “On set Set Decorator / Designer”

This past year here back in Miami I have been working full-time “On a Mission!” My personal life long need and goal to truly into the world I honestly believe I was born for. To finally make my true deep mark within  fine Art’s.

~ Miguel Antonio Hine was born in San José Costa Rica. He spent his first years with his family in the rain forest of the Poás Volcano in and tropical cloud forest enriched environment.
Miguel’s earliest memories are one of himself walking through coffee plantations he would walking alongside the mountain tops with his mother Lilliana. Costa Rica is a very diverse and biologically intense country from the deep giant jungles to the beautiful secluded beaches the exotic wildlife is like no other and it will leave many bold yet vibrant expressions on a young man. It is the perfect environment for an abstract expressionist like Miguel.
Miguel comes from a very talented family that was also involved with the arts. His greatest inspiration was his grandmother. Margot Ros Hine. She was Cuban born as well as a five year old prodigy concert pianist. Margot had a lifelong musical career. She was married over 60 years to a diplomat home was also the director of the national theater of Costa Rica.
At a very young age Miguel moved to a small community in Miami Florida where he spent his childhood. Living in the United States most of his life allowed Miguel the opportunity to study fine arts as well as painting on full scholarships. He studied at two of the top art schools in the nation which were. The new world school of the arts and the Maryland Institute College of Art. Miguel’s family was very excepting and supportive of his passion for the arts. “You can only learn so much on your own. There comes a point where you need guidance, direction and feedback as well as proper critiques to push you and help you develop your skills”
Following formal schooling, Miguel beget being an adventurous soul, Felt the need to travel and pursue personal aspect of his life. Miguel stated that his father’s absence had played him since childhood. With accolades and scholarships and scholastic art award to his credit, It appeared she sure was full of promise yet, he was driven by the opportunity to reconnect with his roots and his father who had been absent from his life.
Miguel returned to coaster Rica, leaving behind a flourishing career. He needed to learn more about himself. “To travel is to grow” and his experiences open his eyes, taught him about life, survival, and humility. He took every advantage to explore the not so often traveled roads as much as possible. He worked on another creative endeavors that also allowed him to stay close to what mattered most to him at the time which was nature, art and a pure lifestyle.
Miguel’s call back to the art studios was very strong. However and after a few years away from it it was time for him to return. He had missed their feet. He had missed the smell of the studios as well as the interaction with his artistic peers. Miami was evolving into a very prestigious our community that had opportunities Miguel is proud of Miami’s energetic pool of talent, growing into a melting pot of culture and diversity. His impressive body of work is not limited to the fine arts. Miguel also delivers into advertising and graphics product design helmets, surfboards, and murals. These are among some of the unconventional pieces that make up Miguel Hine’s portfolio.

What can we do we do to keep it FRESH!!.. Try “India Ink and Sea water..”

These past three months have been artistically a blessing.. Why? Well for the first time in my life, within-the past 4-6 months.  I have sold over 32 original mixed media painting’s, Exhibited in NYC and have completely sold every piece of artwork available for purchase at the moment..  Aside from the few I keep in the HINE family vault that have future plans.. Also, Within the past four month’s I have also  proudly completed a total of eleven commissioned project’s /  painting’s from 5 different art collectors raging in all sorts of sizes, mainly always working in Mixed media, on cradled Maple wooden canvas. All wonderful opportunity’s that thankfully where presented to me and even cooler!! More important, they where *Thankfully all received very well and enthusiastically by all the clients.  *A personal  achievement to be proud off.. Also, Currently I’m working on a project for a private collector that consists of a total of six painting’s… So why am I telling you all this anyhow!!? You don’t care about these lame artists “fun fact’s do you?!” Right? Well, I tell you.. Is because I’m bragging.. maybe a little. lol.. NO!  Seriously, Just kidding I’m still at ground zero in the art world.. We all know that.. Somewhat at least. Well if your still reading it’s simply because. While  I’ve been working so hard on these painting’s I discovered something within my-self. The fact that I can produce immense amounts of work but can find my self to be artistically drained and lost within the work at times.. So what do we do to keep it fresh!

I believe a true artist must always be thinking and acting creatively. He must always look through the eye’s of an artist within everything he or she does. It’s not easy at times, I understand. But a simple technique can help you through your work while keeping your craft sharp and fresh.

While currently working on six commissioned arts works, that have a lot of color and very vibrant tones..  I started  new smaller piece, in only black and white. No color. Also straight india ink and spontaneously started my “Abstract line Drawing’s”  with no plan. Just letting them flow and become what they wish to be..

It’s the drawing or drawing’s that I go too get away from all the other paintings I have going on. So I can return to the other pieces freshly or with a clear head, If you know what mean.. I’m working on six painting at once right now so it’s important to keep it fresh. it’s easy for an artist to get wrapped up and lost in his work at times losing sight of what you were initially going to do. Therefore, I’ve found that walking away for a brief while and starting something new and meaningless.. 1) As stated, I belive an artist should always be producing.. But learn to explore and mix it up. I’m always creating or working on something. Whether it be a sketchbook a doodle whatever. but keeping it fresh or rather “Keeping a fresh eye”  is the proper terminology. You always have to or should approach your work with the right mind frame.. And a a fresh eye and enthusiastic mind frame.. Ready to start your *Dialogue with your work.  Sometimes switching to a different medium or smaller project with no meaning or “client” attached to the work can and will help you achieve this and alleviate some of the stresses of being an artist simply trying to survive just like everyone else. Also *That way you’re more significant work keeps it’s “Umpff!! its power! It’s magic and doesn’t go stale or become “Over-worked” *How some artists don’t know how to walk away from a painting in the end up killing it. “Overworking it” now that’s another topic.

These are a few small examples of some India Ink on Illustration board I’ve been working on the side to keep my mind freash and ready for my larger project’s.

Thank you and Enjoy: “India Ink on Illustration boards by Artist Miguel Hine – “Abstract Line Drawing’s” 2015. All image rights reserved. May not reproduce without consent from the artist.

My TSG Fullface helmet design commissioned artwork for my boy Wesley Ormond of AL.

Exhibiting the (L) Side of the TSG INTERNATIONAL helmet design I’m creating after it has had the first layer of artwork and paint application applied. Then shortly after this photo was taken it was airbrushed with a ghostly grey through area’s of the helmet. Finally now I will go over every line again and add more detail, a bit more drawing to complete the second half of the artistic process. And finally.. the Helmet will be airbrushed with a thick, high-impact/ scratch resistant polymer. Cant wait to present you the final product this week! ~ More photo’s to come. Stay tuned. ~ Artist
